It is the largest city and former capital of Gujarat. Ahmedabad is situated on the Sabramati river banks at a distance of 30 km from the state capital Gandhinagar. Ahmedabad established itself as the ground of an emerging textile industry, due to which it even earned the pet name "Manchester of the East".
